A Letter from the President of

Another LISUG year (2006/2007) is approaching its end. Another 10 general meetings, another May Education Day, and another 10 BOD meetings. The General Meetings are somewhat structured and predictable, the May Education Day is big, busy, and challenging, and BOD meetings range from quick and easy, to long and contentious (which is usually when we are planning something new). So far this year, we have sustained last year’s increased attendance at most of our monthly meetings. This was again accomplished by the extra efforts of the Officers and Board Members, and by the extraordinary loyalty and support of the general membership. This year, we have continued to see more attendees from the same companies, and more first time attendees. These ‘healthy’ trends are due mainly to the sustained efforts of the Speakers, Membership and Website Committees. As I, and the other Officers and BOD Members, continue to talk to members and attendees during the cocktail/networking hour, and during dinner, we are still sensing an increasing vitality and confidence about the future of the technology that we have all tied our careers and livelihood to. This motivates us to find more and better ways to have LISUG help continue this momentum by offering the best learning and networking opportunities that we can! In September, we will again play ‘LISUG Musical Chairs’ as we ‘shuffle the deck’ of Officers and BOD members to sustain the energy, and to get new ideas on the table. Our next president, Charles Kaplan, has shared some of his ideas with me, and it should be exciting next year! The remaining meetings in the current ‘semester’ are designed to continue this enthusiasm. The May 16th Meeting will feature the 2nd greatly expanded Annual Education Day. This year’s event will feature Two Speaker Tracks, a Vendor EXPO with over 20 exhibitors, and a special Keynote speaker. There will also be a variety of drawings and raffles for some great items (iPod, Golf Clubs, autographed books, and many specialty items). May is also our membership renewal meeting.
